Technical crisis in the humanist world
It is well known fact, that humanist occupations are very popular nowadays. Since school a lot of people suppose this profession to be very promising. With such an opinion they are brought up in their families, go to school, to a university and finally they begin educating their own children that way. Blind alley.
Why is it so? What do make people think that manual operations have lost their popularity?
There are several motives.
firstly modern machinery reached such a high extent of development that society is capable of using it without having specialized technical education. Consequently there is no need for further diffusion of technological skill. Humanits application starts prevailing in all aspects of life.
second it is an well known fact that we live in the consumer society. People in it don’t want to work with their hands. They like to explain the world around and consume products, but not to produce something by themselves. Naturally this fact does not affect positively on diffusion of technical knowledge. People are simply not concerned with it.
In the third place is the fact that the resource base has achieved such a extent of desolation that we frequently have no place for work after learning the theory.
at last a very major thing is the policy of the government. What professions does it consider as needed today? We can easily find out it by watching our mass-media. The internet, the television, the radio, the press – what ways of life do they promote now? It is easy to prove that they are full of humanist images. Mass-media show us pleasant, nice life in which there is no place for hard-work, but there are a lot of talks, beautiful scenes and fantasies.
What do we have as a in the issue?
Lack of competent workers in the technological sphere. There are a lot of philosophers, lawyers, artists, singers, politicians, professors but a few people, able to operate for example a jointer planer. This will lead to a difficult situation when we will be needing very simple things which are very important for our comfortable existence.
Besides that our education system is totally destroyed. There is no technical literature of high quality – it is either sold or lost. There is no qualified lecturers able to educate worthy personnel working in technical spheres.
Such is the picture. Sad, isn’t it?
Then, there is an adequate question: what should our society do in order to improve the situation? I think that there are several actions to be taken. firstly our education system should change its attitude towards technical professions and specialities and theirs future. Then our country should do its best in order to promote engineering specialities in mass-media.
And of course, the best way to save technical specialities is to assign enough means both for the payment for the people who work in this sphere and to the creating an adequate resource base.
